Large Lobi Stool, Burkina Faso
A large three-legged stool hand carved from a singular piece of wood, originating from the Lobi people of Burkina Faso, West Africa.
This zoomorphic piece is almost bird-like in its form. Due to its shape, three-legged stools such as this were carried over the shoulder by the Lobi men while they walked. This sculptural piece has been used and has a warm patina aligned with its age.
The stool dates to the early 20th Century.
